2009 Subheavy roundup
Photos by James Measom. Words by £10 Bag.
Big up Necta Selecta for providing the deep south west with another action packed year of dubstep music via his unrivaled Subheavy soundsystem. 2009 brought us, the ravers, some of Subheavy’s best bookings and turnouts so I thought it would be fitting to post up a tribute here to what I believe has been a really special year of music.
Dubstep continued to explode in popularity over the course of 2009 but a few things have remained constant: there’s still no sign of the original “Triple Six” being released, Joker is still going from strength to strength, and Subheavy is still putting on the most enjoyable and authentic dubstep night in Cornwall and Devon.
It’s hard to pick a highlight out of the 16 or so headliners who performed at Subheavy in 2009, but for me personally, Hatcha @ Subheavy Falmouth in February was a unique night of epic proportion. Although to be fair, Joker, Appleblim, Gatekeeper and Wedge was one of the best nights of music I’ve ever witnessed…but having said that, I don’t know if anything can be better than hearing the original “Triple Six” dropped on a big soundsystem by the man himself, Coki.
Anyway, its not about ranking one producer/DJ above or below another, so here’s a selection of pictures from Subheavy’s raves from last year for you to peruse. Big up Necta, Ali, Stef and everybody else involved who has helped make Subheavy such an enjoyable thing to be a part of. All pictures were taken by James Measom in 2009 at Subheavy raves in Falmouth and Plymouth.

Coki in the zone.

Appleblim and his magnificent sideburns.

Necta Selecta cueing up ‘Skeng’. Probably.

Rusko, looking silly.

Distance rocking Transition dubs and a DMZ shirt. Badman.

Hatcha, the world’s first dubstep DJ, tearing Falmouth a new one.

Joker and his mandem.

Youngsta the human BPM counter doing what he does best.

Jakes and J.Man being rude. OK, this is a 2008 photo but its a good one.

Staf and Blotta, no doubt on a B2B flex.
